Robert & Paula have just returned from running a highly successful Special Adventure Tour. The aim was twofold – to promote Oceana Resort (near Puerto Galera); and to discover new & completely undived sites. Our clients loved the resort – its spacious, tropical feel appealed to everyone. And the quality of the Filipino-style food, together with the friendly staff, made it the hit we predicted it would be. As to the diving, our clients just couldn’t find enough superlatives! We discovered & named 3 superb new sites within a 10 minute banca ride of the resort; and an hour away (& worth the trip) we discovered a potential Thresher Shark cleaning station (of which more later), together with a very exciting drift dive, which we immediately named ‘Go Dive Express’.

THRESHER SHARKS

Thanks to some meticulous detective work by Jan Acosta, we believe we may have discovered a cleaning station used by Thresher Sharks. Information gleaned from local fishermen over a period pointed to an area where several Threshers had been brought up by them as an unfortunate by-catch. Jan investigated & pinpointed the site, & consulted a well-known Thresher researcher, who confirmed that this was indeed a likely site. It is a station populated by large quantities of cleaner wrasse & situated on a steep drop-off where deep up-welling currents meet. When we dived it we found nothing, but were cheered by the presence of a very persistent pod of dolphins. Whilst very welcome, these dolphins may well have been the reason no Threshers were seen on that dive. We intend to persist with this site, diving it at different times & in different conditions in the hopes of sighting some Threshers sooner or later. Watch this space!
 
SAMPAGUITA RESORT SPECIAL OFFER

FREE OPEN WATER REFERRAL DIVES,& ADVANCED COURSES

Until the end of this year we are offering free Open Water completion dive courses to anyone booking a Corals & Coconuts Tour. We are also offering a free Advanced Course (all you pay for is your PADI manual). We have linked up with Sport Diver who are sending out a free explanatory PADI booklet to anyone who has completed a Try Dive in the last 12 months – the aim being to encourage them to build on that experience & take the next step.
